March 31, 2011

goodbye, March 2011!

There are so many things that happened this month. Yet, I have shared you only few. So in this last post for this month, let me add those "other" things that I want to share with you together with the month's summary.

  • The house from Up (movie) is now in reality. Yes, the National Geographic built a house that was inspired the movie.
  • Tsunami and earthquake hit Japan and I've shared a prayer for them. They still need our prayers for their recovery. Click here to see the prayer.
  • I've made my Fourth Place, my new blog site entitled Our Daily Bread Online where you can find different stories that will remind us of God's word. The website is http://ourdailybreadonlinebynica.blogspot.com. Take a minute or two in reading everyday's post and surely, you'll feel better and closer to God.
  • Me and my officemates discovered a new opened eat-all-you-can buffet restaurant near our office, the Tramway Hotel. Visit their website http://www.tramwaybuffet.com.
  • I revealed the Kamiseta's new face. It's Katie Holmes-Cruise!
  • Lileth and I celebrated our first year at work. Cheers to the both of us! Thanks to our Broadcore Family! :)
I supposed to share this to you but because I am kind of busy, let me share you the following briefly:
  • The Oxford English Dictionary (OED)has added internet slang in its pages. The dictionary added new 900 words which include some internet "initialisms" (as how OED calls it) and a symbol for the for the first time. Included in the dictionary now are LOL (laugh at loud), BFF (best friend forever), IMHO (in my humble opinion), OMG (oh my God) and the symbol <3 (which is universally acknowledged in the internet as heart).
  • On the not-so-good side, 3 Filipino drug mules were executed in China yesterday, March 30. My condolences to their family. Let's include them in out prayers.

My 1st Year in Broadcore

MARCH 29, 2010 when me and Lileth (my college classmate) started to work in Broadcore Philippines, Inc. We were hired as a part-time Web Copywriter since both of us just want to have something "fruitful" to do before our graduation which happened last May 2010.

After graduation, Sir Gab (our boss) asked us if we want to continue working with them and work as a full-time employee and after thinking about it, we both decided to continue working with the team.

Time really passes that fast and here we are, celebrating our 1st year of working in Broadcore. Surrounded with the people who are really nice, we are both happy to be a part of the company.

To our Broadcore Family who has been so nice since day one, thank you! hoping for more bonding moments with you! :)

And to us, Lilethgirl, I must say that we really are growing. From being college classmates, part-time employees and now to being full-time officemates who are now celebrating our 1st year. Walang katapusang pagbati! Happy Anniversary to us! haha! CHEERS TO THE BOTH OF US! Hoping for more blessings ahead of us! :)

FOR ALL THE LOVE, GUIDANCE AND SHOWER OF BLESSINGS, THANK YOU LORD!

this post's supposed to be posted last night, i just forgot to publish it. haha! :))

Katie Holmes, Kamiseta's New Face

In line with my blog post about bidding goodbye to Natalia Vodianova as Kamiseta's face (click here to view the post), here's the update. Katie Holmes-Cruise (Tom Cruise's wife) is the new face of Kamiseta.

The website of Kamiseta is still not updated, so here I am, giving you the latest update. I've got this news in an article in The Philippine Star website and the article goes like this:

In progressive countries like Japan, it’s not uncommon to see Hollywood actors and international models endorsing homegrown labels.

In the Philippines, only one label stands out for consistently booking foreign celebrities for its ad campaigns.

Alicia Silverstone, Natalie Portman, Kate Hudson, Petra Nemcova, and Natalia Vodianova have all been Kamiseta Girls.

And each time they change their billboards, we all get excited, whether you wear Kamiseta or not.

This year, the new face of Kamiseta is none other than Katie Holmes -Cruise, the 32-year-old actress who became known for her role as Joey Potter on Dawson’s Creek, her highly publicized relationship with Tom Cruise, and as mother to four-year-old Suri.

Kamiseta president/CEO Gonzalo “Gunn” Roque III shares Katie Holmes was chosen “because her style and persona fits that of a Kamiseta girl.”

True enough, Katie’s off-screen paparazzi photos reveal a casual, laidback chic, similar to Kamiseta’s sensibilities.

Although, Katie wanted to shoot in Vancouver, Canada where Tom Cruise is working on the set of Mission Impossible 4, she agreed to shoot in a Pasadena location, which had all the facilities.

But first there were permits to be secured, as a month previously, paparazzi swarmed the neighborhood during Katie’s photo shoot.

The residents weren’t happy. In order to push through, Kamiseta was required to hire police officers to ensure no paparazzi could enter the vicinity.

The shoot went smoothly, with world-renowned photographer Pamela Hanson at the helm.

Hanson’s work has been regularly featured in international editions of Marie Claire, Vogue and Glamour, Vanity Fair, InStyle, GQ, Allure, D Magazine, Elle, Nylon and Jane.

Among her clients are Tommy Hilfiger, Joseph, L’Oreal, LancĂ´me, Lancaster, Maybelline, Halston, Giorgio, Keds, Max Mara, Emporio Armani, Charlotte Ronson, Ann Taylor, Avon, Biotherm, Redbook, Coach, Pantene, Victoria’s Secret, Joseph, Les Copains, and now, Kamiseta.

Katie’s hair was styled by Davidi Babaii, named by Vogue as “the King of Curl,” with a client list that includes Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurman, Nicole Kidman, Scarlett Johansson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Makeup was done by celebrity makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen, who has worked with Katie Holmes for Elle and Glamour, as well as Tom Cruise for Details magazine.

Gunn reveals that Katie arrived on time without an entourage, went through the collection and gave her choices.

“As an actress, she really transforms in front of the camera. She can naturally change mood and respond to the photographer,” Gunn said.

Being family oriented, Katie talked about her trips with Tom and Suri all over the world and said she really gets nervous watching Tom at work when he does his own stunts.

Bit of trivia: Katie loves her Birkins and is happy she doesn’t have to wait in line.

After the shoot, Katie took home her new Kamiseta wardrobe and, get this, carried her own things to her car, while bodyguards waited for her.

Kamiseta is a leading retailer of cool casual classics produced through a formula of extensive product development, merchandising, brand imaging, affordable prices and friendly service.

Its premium lines or limited collections, such as its collaboration with Libert of London, have been well received by Kamiseta fans.

As for customers concerned that contracting high-profile celebrities like Katie Holmes will affect Kamiseta prices, Gunn clarifies that prices depend on materials, trims, cuts and finishes.

“Regardless of who the Kamiseta girl is, our prices will always be based on the collection. Since the beginning we’ve always said you can’t get products like ours at these prices.”

Now shopping at Kamiseta is as easy as going online, as it offers limited pieces that can be shipped locally and internationally.

From Alicia Silverstone, Natalie Portman, Kate Hudson, Petra Nemcova, and Natalia Vodianova to Katie Holmes, Kamiseta never fails to pick a great model for their brand.

Gluttony, one of the 7 deadly sins I can't avoid

032111.

Me and my officemates decided to have our at the newly-opened eat all you can buffet in Shaw Blvd., the Tramway Buffet. Tramway serves Chinese, Japanese and Filipino dishes and yes, their foods are very good (though I am not that into Chinese and Japanese foods). It was my first time to eat in an Eat All You Can Buffet and I swear, I enjoyed it.

We planned to be there for 2 hours (many thanks to Sir Gab for letting us) thinking that it will open at 11:00am. Unfortunately, it was still closed when we reached the place and the guard told us that it will open at 11:30am. And so, we waited for few minutes and took pictures.

 The Tramway Girls :)

The writers :)

After few minutes of waiting outside, the guard told us that we can go inside though the crews are still preparing the dishes. Everyone is excited. The ambiance of the place is good and yes, NAKAKAGUTOM. haha! Picture picture muna ulit while waiting.

Sir Joseph, Ate April and Ate Jessica

Me, Jak, Kuya Marck and Leth

And the long wait is over. YES, KAINAN NA! haha! No pictures were taken while we're eating. We're all busy trying to taste each dish that is prepared for us.

Here's what I've got:
1st plate (chopsuey-like veggies, rice, fried chicken and carbonara )
2nd plate (rice, fried chicken, macaroni salad and pineapple)

3rd plate (siomai, sushi, puto and bilo-bilo)

4th plate (same as 1st plate)
5th plate (vegetable salad, macaroni salad and pineapple)

I forgot to take a picture of my last plate since we were rushing. Anyway, it's just a small serving of carbonara, their best dish for me (or I just love carbonara. haha!).

After eating, our table looks like this:

And what can you say, birthday boy?

BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY KUYA MARCK! :)

So now, tell me, how can avoid gluttony? HAHA! :))

You must try it! Tramway Buffet also has branches at Timog and Banawe.

My Fourth Place

Have I ever mentioned about my third place?

Yes, I have never mentioned before that this blog site "Happiness is my Choice" is my third place. In this site, I own the world and nobody can stop me for whatever I want to post. Here, I can write whatever it is that I am feeling, good or bad. Also, I can share anything and everything under the sun with everyone through my blogs. I love writing and sharing, and I guess, that's the reason why I did My Fourth Place.

What's "My Fourth Place?" Well, I am planning about this 3 months ago, before 2010 ended but since I am busy about a lot of things, I don't know where and how to start. But after thinking hardly and being greatly motivated by all the tragedies and disasters happening around us, I decided to continue doing this. I MUST do this even if it is kinda late.

And so after few days of typing and reading, I am officially sharing my fourth place entitled "Our Daily Bread Online." In this new blog site that I did, I can share what is needed to be shared. It was just last year when I started to read Our Daily Bread and seriously, it helped me a lot in becoming a stronger person. It gave me the courage and strength to face each day with full confidence (because I know that there is Someone that's always guiding me. That's the reason why I decided to do this, to help each of the readers (if there will be) to be more connected with our Father and to understand life more.

I hope people won't take this the wrong way. I am not a perfect person and I didn't create the site for any other reason but to share those good messages that I am reading each day. For me, this is the least that I can do regarding the sharing of God's word.

Every post contain a message that our Father wants us to be reminded of. It will never take a lot of your time (trust me!), just like reading few verses in the bible.

You are all invited in MY FOURTH PLACE anytime!

seeyah there! :)

Let's Pray for Japan

Everyone knows what happened to Japan. The tsunami and the earthquake with 8.9 magnitude. Actually, I decided not to blog about the disaster but early this morning, while I was at work, I saw my friend's status (who is in Japan) in facebook saying that there are still aftershocks in their place which made me do this one.

Last Sunday, while I was listening to a homily that tackles about the said disaster, the pastor said that all that is happening is written in the bible and we must not fear. In the homily, we read about this verses in the bible:

Matthew 24:4-14 states that:

Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Yes, it is written and it will happen. God's word is always true and everything that He says will happen so we must not be afraid. In fact, we must be stronger. There are many questions that will come into our minds but those will only be answered at the right time. All we can do now is to pray and pray and have faith that whatever happens in every part of the world has a purpose.

We must also be responsible of our brothers and sisters all over the world. In line with this, I want to share this prayer (Source: Paulo Coelho's Blogthat I hope, every reader (of this blog) must pray as a sign of our concern for our neighbors in Japan and in other places who are suffering from disasters and other calamities:

Lord, protect our planet, because we live here, and here we dwell with our daily tragedies.
May our daily reconstruction be the result of the very best that we carry within us.
Give us the courage to be able to reconstruct what was destroyed to be able to recover what was lost, to be able to accept what was gone forever.
May you give us courage to look ahead, may we never look back nor allow our soul to be discouraged.
Lord, give us enthusiasm, because Enthusiasm reaffirms to us that everything is possible, as long as we are totally committed to what we are doing.
Lord, may the Earth continue to transform seeds into wheat, may we continue to transmute wheat into bread. Do not leave us in solitude.
Have compassion on us, Lord. For we often think we are dressed when we are naked.
Do not forget, in your mercy, our friends in Japan, who are now teaching us the meaning of Courage, Reconstruction, Solidarity and Enthusiasm.
Amen

Strong faith and good communication with God is what we need right now. Slowly, we can see that we can do nothing but pray when something like this happen. Also, let us be responsible with each other, have concern for those who are in need. Give help if we can. And if not, the best help that we can give them is our prayers. Let us practice a neighborly love as Luke 10:27 says "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself."

Lady Gaga designed a "we pray for Japan" bracelet as her way of helping Japan

Let us also remember that we can talk to God and tell everything to Him anytime. He is always there to listen whenever we want to talk to Him. He is just waiting for us to call.

Again and again, I will say, maybe, it is the time to go back to basics. Let's read and spread God's word for us to understand even just a bit of what is happening around us.

And to our brothers and sisters in Japan, we will all pray for you.

House From Up (movie), Now Exists In Real Life - And It Flies!

I just read about this last night at gizmodo.com and it made me feel like I wanna try to fly inside the house. It was just in my thoughts before (while I was watching the movie) and now it's for REAAAAL! Here's the article:
Jesus Diaz — This is really nuts. The people from National Geographic have built a house inspired by the Pixar movie Up! Yes, a house tied to gas balloons that actually flies. I'm so giddy I can barely type.

Sure, the 16 by 16 feet house is not a full house, but I don't care. It flies for real, thanks to three hundred weather balloons full of helium. The Up! house—which will be part of a new National Geographic TV series called How Hard Can It Be?—was 10 stories high, including the balloons. It reached 10,000 feet and flew for about one hour.
Update: The producers of the National Geographic series How Hard Can It Be?—which is premiering this fall—sent us a lot of new photos taken at the private airfield near Los Angeles, where it all happened. Photos copyright 2011 National Geographic Channel. Photos by Stewart Volland [My Modern Metvia Fotomaf via Necedades]

i bet, you want to try it too, right? haha!
(many thanks also to Sir Melo who also posted about this article. his post reminded me to blog this one)
